What I've been up to
I wrote that I was thinking about attribution and neglected to state why! I was thinking about why I'd left LJ lie fallow. Two reasons: travel, and going through the fourth draft of my Southern vampire novel, which will be going to a waiting agent as soon as I enter all the extremely detailed edits Toni put into it. It's slow; this is the very hardest part of the process for me, if only because it is a rather irritating process -- look at the page, find the spot with the edit, find the spot in the online manuscript (which is not in the same place, because I've been making edits), fix it, move on...ick.

While I was waiting for her to finish reading it (she also had to finish the first book in her new series, which is awesome), I busied myself with the sequel, which is up past 18,000 words. And I've been traveling about 40%...

So I take full responsibility for not putting stuff on LJ, and will be attempting to catch up, as the past three posts might have indicated...! I've been prioritizing ruthlessly, but as I approach the end of the novel (page 129/Chapter Eleven and counting - I'm editing roughly in order), I am thinking of the next nonfiction book on motivation...

I was wondering how that was going. Can I read the "final" draft? I'm curious to see what all changed.

Best of luck to you on the publication trail. My rejection file just keeps getting plumper. Sigh.

Sure!

I'll forward it. Nothing too substantial, but a lot of small rough edges and a few background details --interestingly, Toni kept asking me questions I answered in the second book.

Good luck to you -- keep plugging. Remember, Dune was rejected by every publisher in New York -- 26, I think. Or, to take a lesser example, Jonathan Livingston Seagull was rejected by 43 publishers. And I know one of them, who told me, "if I had the chance--I'd reject it again!!"

You have to have priorities, and it's better to post nothing than to post inane nonsense when you have nothing to say or you're too busy to put a coherent thought together. *glances at my last several entries* Um, yeah. But I'm one of those sad people whose main source of both entertainment and interaction is LJ, and I feel guilty if I don't post anything for several days, so there I am. Posting nonsense.

Hey, fourth draft! Very shiny! You are going to let us all know when it's published so we can run out and get a copy, right?

Oh, yeah

I promised myself when I started this blog that I would not, in fact, put in inane facts about my own less-than-fascinating daily life, but make an effort to put in real content. But that was the idea! If you use LJ as your main source for entertainment and interaction, then why worry about it?

And you better believe I'll let you know when it's published!
